Absalom Jones Fund

In 2004, a few dedicated parents at St. Anne’s Episcopal School started the Absalom Jones Financial Aid Endowment Fund to help provide financial aid to students from diverse backgrounds and in honor and memory of one of the first ordained African American Episcopal priests in the United States. Absalom Jones was born a slave in Delaware in 1746 and later bought his and his wife’s freedom while working in Philadelphia. After experiencing segregation in the Methodist Church, Absalom Jones was ordained a priest and helped to form the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, later becoming its rector. One of the most influential clergymen in Colonial America, he left a continuing impact on the life of millions.

We invite you to participate in the mission of St. Anne’s Episcopal School by designating a monetary gift to The Absalom Jones Financial Aid Endowment Fund, strengthening its commitment to diversity. Your contribution will be added to the permanent endowment fund, from which only the income generated by the fund, will be used for financial aid. Your contribution is fully tax-deductible.
