Sanford School Science club sets world record in Punkin Chunkin competition

The Sanford Upper School science club, Project Beyond, set a new world record in the 2010 Punkin Chunkin competition in Bridgeville, Delaware. The Sanford trebuchet, Sanford Slinger, came in first place by launching a pumpkin 852.34 ft. The launch set a new world record in the Youth Trebuchet division. Congratulations to Ariel Jicha and the members of Project Beyond. Ariel was asked to be captain for the 2011 team.

June, 2011 Graduation Prizes at St. Andrew's School

  • Madison Beres (Class of 2007)- Headmaster's Award for outstanding service to the school

  • Forrest Brown (Class of 2007) - Headmaster's Award for outstanding service to the school; Religious Studies Prize; he was also named a 2011 Jefferson Scholar at The University of Virginia

  • Sarah Kemer (Class of 2007) - Library Prize, Religious Studies Prize, Fine Arts Prize

  • Jake Myers (Class of 2008)- Malcolm Ford Award for cheerful spirit,
    leadership and good sportsmanship

A Sample of Extra Curricular Successes from the Fall of 2011:

  • Forrest Brown (Class of 2007)was recently interviewed in one of the leading online rowing journals.

  • Julie Macedo (Class of 2008) was a top ranked cross-country runner in competing for Charter School of Wilmington. Julie finished first in the Girls 5,000-Meter Championship Final at the Nike Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships and was ranked as one of the top elite runners in the nation.

  • Jordan Poarch (Class of 2008) A four-year starter at Sanford School has signed to play Division I soccer at national powerhouse, The University of Virginia.

  • Hunter Dann (Class of 2009) has been a three year starter for the Salesianum soccer team, the 2011 state champions.

  • Five players who are St. Anne's alumni (Dayton Geddes-Key, Ryan Yursha, Carter Speers, Colin Brownlee, and Aaron Chang) were on the 14-2-1 St. Andrew's varsity soccer team that went to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. Dayton, Ryan and Colin were consistent starters.

  • Brittany Kahn (Class of 2009) has been a leading scorer in Field Hockey for Appoquinimink High School the last two seasons. She also had a lead role in Hairspray at PCA, The Performing Center for the Arts in Middletown.

  • Kelsey Cumiskey (Class of 2011) as a freshman at Ursuline Academy was selected to attend the 2011 National Girls Scouts Leadership Institute in November, a four day event for Girl Scouts in grades 6-12 from around the world.

  • Ashton Dunklee and Kenny Monroe (both class of 2011) were top scoring cross country runners for Middletown High School this fall as freshmen.

  • Austin Pinelli (class of 2011)a versatile musician at SAES has surprised himself by playing the tuba at Dover High School for the largest marching band in the state.
