St. Anne’s seeks a dynamic leader with significant elementary school experience to serve as the next Head of Lower School, effective July 1, 2012. The Head of Lower School directs the day-to-day operation of the division and is responsible for all academic and extra-curricular programs in the Lower School. He or she is responsible for ensuring that the educational environment is conducive to student growth and success, for evaluating classroom instruction, and for maintaining a creative and collaborative environment that also encourages respect, responsibility, and compassion at all levels. The Head of Lower School takes a principle role in teacher hiring and evaluation and works with the faculty and Head of School in developing curriculum.

Lower School Head Job Description

The position of Lower School Head includes the following responsibilities:
- Oversight of the daily operations of the Lower School
- Maintaining a positive, purposeful climate amongst the faculty, students, and parents
- Hiring, mentoring, and evaluation of Lower School staff
- Oversight of the curriculum and all other aspects of the program
-In most cases the teachers organize their program, but the Lower School Head is ultimately responsible for what happens in the classroom
- Oversight of the Lower School community life
- Planning and leading of workshops and faculty meetings
- Development of the academic schedule and calendar along with other administrators in the school
- Working with the administrative team on school wide initiatives and admission recruitment
- Representing the Lower School in parent, Board and other school meetings
- Assisting with math or reading groups as needed
- Oversight of Lower School budgetary needs and expenditures
While there will be other aspects to the job, this list encompasses the majority of the responsibilities. The Lower School Head will be expected to be at school whenever it is in session and at times during vacations as needed. Division heads also get four weeks of vacation in the summer.
