FIELD HOCKEY

The St. Anne’s Episcopal School field hockey team finished a strong season with some great wins, a few tough losses and overall a successful season. The team began its season with only 10 players in 7th and 8th grades. Since a team needs 11 players on the field at one time, Coach Heather Trabaudo called upon a number of sixth grade athletes to complete the team. With only a handful of these young ladies ever playing hockey, Coaches Trabaudo and Alison DeFino decided to start building the skills set by teaching the basics first and then moving on to strategy. What started out to be a very challenging beginning to our season, ended with the St. Anne’s team winning the three of their last four games. The final record was 3-6-1.

SOCCER

The St. Anne’s Episcopal School boys’ soccer team wrapped up their second consecutive undefeated season with a victory over Kent School on October 28. The Herons finished 6-0-3, including victories over rivals Sanford and Kent School. Through the course of the season, the high-powered offense, led by 8th graders Aaron Chang and Evan Ward, produced 22 goals. The tough defense, anchored by 8th grade goalkeeper Roarke Bonnell and Colin Brownlee, allowed only ten goals, including 4 shutouts. Coach Matt Wolinski said of the team, “In terms of skill and teamwork, this was an impressive group of players, but their best quality was their sportsmanship. They helped each other out and pushed each other to improve throughout the season” The Herons are graduating fifteen eighth graders and nine starters, but will return next year with an experienced core of 7th graders.
